Holger Czukay lived a fuller richer life than most of us ever will. He’s one of the most creative minds to have ever existed in music, and certainly in rock&roll. Any list of Top 10 bass players is incomplete without him. He died today. Someone else will die tomorrow. All of us will die eventually. I’ve written about Can, the seminal German band he played in, a couple of times now. I think both times clocked in over 3,000 words, so that should be more than enough to convey my thoughts.
Here’s my review of a Tago Mago reissue, and yes there were drugs involved. It ran three ‘pages,’ and since the site’s re-design you can’t access the other pages unless you know the secret. Here’s the links:

Tago Mago Page Two
Tago Mago Page Three
And here’s a review of The Lost Tapes. That one was just a page. Here’s a link:

And here’s a line from it:
The moral of the story is (and this is a lesson that should be learned by every rock band) FILL YOUR GROUP WITH GENIUSES AND THEN SUBJUGATE YOUR EGO TO THE NEEDS OF THE GROUP.
May he rest in peace, and may the electric energy current of his existence travel through the universe for all eternity.
